A synergy makes a skill deal more damage for every level of another skill or passive, as in Diablo II. Synergies are why a skill you never cast can still be worth its slot: each level of Fire Bolt raises Fire Ball and Meteor.
How they count
- Each synergy adds a set percentage per level of the linked skill, shown on every skill page under Synergies, with the bonus per level.
- Levels from gear's +skills count, as D2's synergies count them.
- A class passive that raises a skill as its synergy counts each of its levels as four of D2's points, as it does everywhere else: a maxed
Vigor gives
Blessed Hammer D2's 20 points. - Some synergies are element-specific:
Vengeance's fire, cold and lightning each take only their own resist aura's synergy.
Example
Meteor gains from both
Fire Bolt and
Fire Ball. Learning Fire Bolt again after it has evolved (it takes its own slot) adds its levels back to Meteor.
