Experience & levels

How much experience monsters give at your level, the level curve to 99, and monster levels.

Experience works as in Diablo II: monsters well below your level give less, so you level close to the monsters instead of racing ahead. Slain monsters leave experience gems to walk over; as an act's boss falls, the gems left on the field fly to you.

A monster above your level gives D2's share too: from level 25, your level over its (Hell's Baal gives a level-80 hero 81%); under 25, less only once it stands 6 or more levels above you.

Levels

Experience to the next level grows with each level, by 10% more a level from 25 and again from 90. Past 70 you also receive less of each kill, as in D2, so level 99 is a long goal.

Monster levels

  • On Normal, monsters' level rises with the act's clock. Champions stand 2 levels above their pack's, uniques 3.
  • Named uniques meet your level, as in Resurrected's Terror Zones. On Nightmare and Hell act bosses do too, up to 5 levels above you.
  • Terror tiers set monsters at 85 plus the tier, up to 99.

Losing experience

A death in a Terror tier costs 10% of the level's experience, never a level.
