Deckard Cain's quests

The Quest Log (Q) holds 24 quests: six for each of Normal, Nightmare, Hell and the Terror tiers. Each pays an item that strengthens your hero for good: a Book of Skill, Lam Esen's Tome, a Potion of Life and so on. The first quest in each difficulty is the Search for Cain, and once Cain is free he hands out the others' rewards in camp.

The Search for Cain

Normal, Nightmare and Hell each open with the Search for Cain, and it can be played in a Terror tier of Act I too, paid as a Hell rescue. It takes two Act I runs: one to take the scroll, and a later one to open the stones.

1. Slay Treehead WoodFist at the Tree of Inifuss, and pick up the Scroll of Inifuss he leaves.
2. Take the scroll to Akara in camp: she turns it into the Key to the Cairn Stones. "Take this to the Cairn Stones, where Rakanishu stands guard."
3. In a later Act I, touch the Cairn Stones where Rakanishu falls. They rise on your screen and stand until the act ends, and lit ones turn gold.
4. Enter the portal to Tristram and free Deckard Cain from his gibbet. The portal back opens on a street you can walk to.
5. Cain now waits in the Rogue Encampment, and Akara pays the rescue with her ring.
